Wellness Tips:

Let’s start with a couple of things  that can make a huge difference in the toxicity of your home:

1. Open Your Windows: Toxicity in the air grows fast when a house is sealed up as it is during the colder months AND the hot months. Opening the windows for 10-15 min, especially on opposite sides of the house, can freshen the air fast.

Also change your air filter in your HVAC according to manufacturer’s instructions.

2. Filter Your Water:  City water is rife with toxicity. I don’t want a “safe amount” of certain toxins. I don’t want any! 🙂 Many city’s have water quality test kits you can purchase or get a water filter to be safe.

3. Wash New or Thrifted Clothes: New clothes have pesticides on them. A single wash can make all the difference! Thrifted clothes from thrift stores are washed in some of the nastiest cleansers. I soak them in a mix of water and Thieves Fruit and Veggie Soak (it has enzymes that helps break up the residue.)

4. Get rid of scented candles & air fresheners: Google it. 🙂

Save Money and Your Health

We all want a clean home, and we want one with products that are safe, effective, and smell great too! 

Sadly, creating a truly clean home isn’t quite as simple as grabbing ‘natural’ products from the grocery store when you’re grocery shopping. These popular green cleaners are anything but green!

Have you heard the term ‘greenwashing’? It is when companies throw catch phrases or use certain packaging to trick consumers into thinking they are purchasing a natural product, when in reality, what they are buying isn’t natural at all. 

We assume that if it’s on the shelf for purchase, that it’s safe and tested, but that doesn’t make it so. Almost all of these products contain phthalates, parabens, bleach, formaldehyde, or toxic chemicals disguised by seemingly green labelling. This is “greenwashing” – a tactic used to trick consumers into purchasing something they think is natural.

Ever wonder why other countries ban chemicals that the US still uses? To date of this writing, the European Union has banned 1,300 chemicals in cosmetics; the FDA  in America has banned only eleven.

Let’s do a quick history lesson….

• The Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 grandfathered in 65,000 to 100,000 chemicals currently on the market today. 
• This means they have NOT been tested for safety–we know little about their long-term effects.
• Of the chemicals tested, toxic labeling is required only if 50% or more of the animals tested with the chemical die. 
• Manufacturers are protected by trade secret laws that allow them to keep their ingredient list a secret. 

We don’t know about you, but we just don’t like those odds.

The Thieves Laundry Soap from Young Living gently and naturally washes your clothes, cleaning them without leaving behind any harsh chemicals or residues. Fabrics come out of the washer clean and with a pleasant citrus aroma, thanks to essential oils!

This laundry soap is also free of optical brighteners that just make clothes look clean. By reflecting blue light, optical brighteners give the illusion of whiter-looking fabrics. Thieves Dish Soap

Pretreat stains with Thieves Dish Soap! Simply drop onto stains, use a wooden laundry brush to rub in, then wash in Thieves Laundry Soap.

You can also make a stain stick! Fill a 30mL roller bottle halfway with Thieves Household Cleaner. Add 1 Tbsp hydrogen peroxide and 10 drops Lemon essential oil

Fill the remainder with Thieves Dish Soap. Shake well and roll onto stains, then brush with a wooden laundry brush.

Essential Oils + Wool Dryer Balls

Ditch the toxic dryer sheets and grab a set of wool dryer balls! No static, healthier linens, and still a great smell. SImply drop essential oils onto wool dryer balls (2-3 drops per ball). Turn on the dryer for a few minutes with just the wool balls before adding clothes.

We love Lemon, Thieves, Lavender, and Purification essential oils for this, but you can really use any scent that you enjoy! 

Cleaning Swaps

This scrub gains its tough scrubbing power from nepheline syenite, a naturally occurring mineral from Canada, baking soda that gently absorbs odors, sodium percarbonate that releases oxygen when combined with water, providing a powerful boost of cleaning power against tough stains, and Young Living’s signature Thieves blend.

We love this scrub for all our cleaning needs, and it makes a great option for removing baked-on grease from baking dishes and dutch ovens as well! You can add a few drops of Lemon essential oil to up the ante for really tough stains.

DIY Febreeze Spray

This simple DIY is a household staple if you have pets, but it’s great for anything that needs to be refreshed! Simply spray lightly onto surfaces to remove unwanted odors.

To a 4 oz glass spray bottle add:

• ¼ cup white vinegar
• 15 drops each Purification or Thieves, Lemon essential oil
• Optional: 10 drops Tangerine essential oil
• Pinch sea salt or splash of witch hazel
• Filtered water
