Toxic Chemical #2: Chlorine Bleach
Surprised again? Another chemical that might surprise you to make it to this list. Chlorine is commonly found in scouring powders, toilet bowl cleaners, mildew removers and laundry whiteners.
According to RealFoodRN.com: “Chlorine is extremely poisonous—it irritates the mucous membranes in the nose and lung issue. Even breathing the fumes that it gives off can cause permanent damage, such as asthma, even in healthy people, erosion of the lining of the lungs and esophagus and scarring of the respiratory tract. Clinical studies have now associated Chlorine exposure to breast cancer also. Studies show that women with breast cancer had 50-60% more Chlorine derivatives in their breast tissue than women without breast cancer.”
Moreever, mixing bleach with a few things can create a fatal gas:
Ammonia
Vinegar
Quaternary ammonium compounds (found in other disinfectants)
We already get way too much of this in our lives. If you live off of city water, chlorine is used to clean bacteria in the water systems.
We purchase reverse osmosis water and use a filter in our shower, but we still wash our hands and clothes in it so we are already exposed to plenty of chlorine.
It behooves us to get it out of our cleaning products!
